Bill Hughey:
One of the many men grateful for the care they receive at Women’s College

That’s what Bill Hughey told us when he called the Foundation shortly after receiving the last issue of Heart & Soul. “It’s such a great hospital,” he reiterated recently. “I just wondered if they realized how much men think of the place.”

Hughey, a retired high school English teacher, was referred to the Hospital for psoriasis treatment. “At that point I didn’t even known if they let men into the building,” he jokes.

Indeed they do. He has been receiving regular treatments since 2002 at the Hospital’s innovative Phototherapy Education and Research Centre, and his skin condition has improved significantly. Better still, he enjoys his treatments. “Dr. Ryan and all the staff are not only very professional and good at what they do, they also have a great sense of humor,” he says. “It’s almost worth having psoriasis to go there!”

When Hughey was diagnosed with diabetes last year, he asked to be referred to TRIDEC, the diabetes education centre at Women’s College. He also attends the foot care centre on a monthly basis.

Grateful for the excellent care he receives, Hughey donates regularly to the Hospital. “I have been lucky financially and I think that this is what I should do – support institutions and people who do good things.”

He hopes other men will express their appreciation for the care they receive at Women’s College and the unique culture of the Hospital. “I spend a lot of time there, and I have never met any staff members who didn’t seem to love their job.”
